The Andrew Fuel Cell Cabinet provides an environmentally friendly DC back-up power solution for wireless and wireline networks with a cabinet design that is modular and flexible to meet the most stringent back-up power needs.
The cabinets’ proton exchange membrane (PEM) hydrogen fuel cells, housed in a secure, weather resistant cabinet for outdoor deployment, offer a smaller footprint and more dense power back-up than what is available in the market.
The Andrew Fuel Cell Cabinet, at 63”H x 45” W x 52”D, is the highest capacity integrated fuel cell system available, providing up to 16 kW in a single cabinet. With power supplied by two 8 kW fuel cells, the Andrew Fuel Cell Cabinet is cooled without use of outside air in a sealed compartment to keep out dust, contaminants and condensation, thereby helping to prevent deterioration of equipment housed inside.
Features and Benefits
Superior eco-friendly power supply offers significant operational cost savings over the life of the cabinet
High reliability – uptime of 99.99 percent, well-suited for telecom applications
Addresses the mandate 8 hours of power back-up for cell sites
Reduces power consumption as fuel cells do not require trickle charging.
Greater power density of a fuel cell reduces the amount of pad space
Supports up to 16 kW; the highest capacity fuel cell cabinet on the market
A single fuel cell can simultaneously back-up multiple BTS’
Eliminates expensive generator and battery maintenance
Modular design for incremental 8 kW growth provide affordable initial investment
The Andrew Hydrogen Storage Cabinet is used outdoors to store hydrogen cylinders that supply hydrogen to fuel cells. The cabinet can store up to 16 hydrogen cylinders, and when used with the Andrew Fuel Cell Outdoor Cabinet can store enough fuel for up to eight hours of operation at 16 kW power back-up than what is available in the market.
The Andrew Hydrogen Storage Cabinet includes all of the hydrogen fittings, pressure regulators and gas manifolds to ensure a trouble-free installation. The system controller in the Andrew fuel cell cabinet continuously monitors fuel levels to simplify hydrogen delivery and maintenance activities.
Features and Benefits
Reduce Operating Expenses (OPEX). Hydrogen fittings allow for easy installation and removal of cylinders to allow for continuous fuel cell operation.
Easy to install. Each cabinet is assembled, completely wired, and system tested to ensure an easy and trouble-free installation.
Less Maintenance. The system controller in the Andrew fuel cell cabinet continuously monitors fuel levels and includes a sensor that can detect fuel leaks. All doors are secured with a security hex key in addition to a pad lock and include intrusion detection alarms that can detect unauthorized entry. The built-in Ethernet interface can be used to communicate with the Central Office providing a system that is easy to monitor and maintain.
Flexible Design. Cabinet can be mounted on the same pad as the fuel cell cabinet or separated in order to facilitate access for hydrogen delivery.
Better Protection. Tough environmental design standards minimize equipment losses during catastrophes. The cabinet uses a weather hardened enclosure to protect the equipment inside of the cabinet.
Standards Compliant. Fully compliant to environmental and reliability requirements – GR-487 (Zone 4 Seismic), wind driven rain, vibration, drop, weather tightness, thermal and UL50.
